Blindness & Light

'Substance - In Remembrance of Tony Wilson' was aspecial event at Manchester International Festival 2017 celebrating Tony and his cultural influence on the 10th anniversary of his passing. Joe was commissioned to write a new piece by the festival and Hull City Of Culture. Blindness & Light, for piano and strings, was performed by Manchester Camerata and Dave Maric on piano. The program also included short works by John Metcalfe & Graham Fitkin from the Factory Classical catalogue, and a performance of St Anthony with Mike Garry.

 

Program notes: "I once heard that Tony Wilson always dreamt of hearing an orchestral version of Atmosphere. So I've composed this new work for piano and strings and limited myself to score using only the notes contained in the original composition. It's an original work but with an intentional sonic resonance throughout."
